Duathlon Summer League 0

To add an extra dimension to this years series, we’re linking up the Phoenix Park Duathlons and the HellFire Duathlons to create the Dublin Duathlon Summer league.
The scoring is based on the system used by the International Triathlon Union (ITU) for their World Cup Triathlon Series, with 800 points for the winner and your best three results from the seven duathlons will be counted.
In the event of a tie break your best 4 results will be counted. This system will reward competitors for consistently high performance ensuring that the league winner is deserving.
The winner will receive a €250 voucher for 2 Wheels cycle our sponsor as well as bragging rights till next summer. The grand final will be the F1 Duathlon in the Phoenix Park where the league winner will be presented with their prize.

Cycle course pointers 0

A few tips on the bike course. First of all the cycle course is all left hand turns for safety reasons as the roads are not closed, see map right.

The descent by the pine forest has been resurfaced since last year’s race, so the descent will be much smoother. However, for anybody looking for tips on cycling skills, we’ve added the youtube clip below. The key points are break early before the bend and you can gain much more on a climb than you can loose on a descent.

HellFire 2011
We’re back for 2011 with three HellFire Adventure Duathlons, using the three woods on the epic cycle loop; Cruagh Woods, Massy’s Woods and Hellfire Woods. The run courses get progressively tougher from the Cruagh trail run to the HellFire mountain run.
Cruagh – 17th May. Starting with a 4km trail run loop, then two loops of the cycle course and finishing with a 2km trail run.
Massy’s – 14th June. Two laps of the 1.5km nature trail loop, then two loops of the cycle course and finishing with another two loops of the nature trail run.
HellFire – 19th July. Same iconic course as 2010. 3km HellFire summit run, then two loops of the cycle course and finishing with another HellFire summit run.
There’s 120 early bird entries available now. 20 x 3 adventures at €60, 20 x 2 adventures at €40 and 20 x 1 adventure at €20.

The first ever HellFire race kicked off in sunshine, but the heavens (or should I say Hell) soon opened, adding extra drama to this epic course. Starting with a run over the Hellfire summit, next up are two loops of the Kilakee Road climb (400m), HellFire then finishes with another run over the HellFire summit.
